Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry
Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry is an American IPA, 7.2% ABV. Gone this year is perennial Dogfish Head spring offering Aprihop. Don’t worry too much though, this new IPA didn’t fall too far from the tree. Romantic Chemistry is brewed with mangos, apricots and ginger.
A nice clear pour with a deep caramel color, some serious orange highlights. A nice combo of the fruits are on the nose along with a bit of classic Dogfish Head IPA pine and some caramel malt. The caramel malt hits my tongue first, this is followed by some kind of generic fruit sweetness. A hint of what could be distinct mango comes out as this warms up a bit. Hop flavors are not huge, but notes of lemon and bit of herbal character are there towards the finish. Not a big bitterness to this IPA which has this a bit too crushable at 7.2%. Even if the feature ingredients fail to come out of this beer in a significant way, this IPA has some wonderful balance on the palate.
Truth be told I kind of miss Aprihop, it was more fruit forward and a bit bolder overall. On the other hand Romantic Chemistry is a good bit easier to drink, I could enjoy a few more of these in one sitting than I could Aprihop.
