Foothills Pilot Mountain
Foothills Pilot Mountain is an American Pale Ale, 5.5% ABV. This looks to be bottled on 01/14/16, opened at just over two months of age.
The beer pours with a golden color that has a touch of red to it when held away from the light, nice off white head, and a quite a few small yeast floaties suspended in the beer as well. A malt forward aroma with some sweet caramel and doughy biscuit malts, a bit of generic citrus is muddled into the malts. The flavor profile certainly isn’t breaking any new ground, but this is one sturdy Pale Ale. The same caramel and biscuit malts form the nose are in the taste, but the hops are much more present. Tasting a good bit of pine and orange from the hops before they move to a more floral and dry finish.
If I was a little more into Pale Ales these days I could easily see myself gravitating to this every now and then. It’s well balanced, has a solid flavor profile, and a reasonable ABV; not sure what else you need in an APA.
