Rogue Chocolate Stout
Rogue Chocolate Stout is an American Stout, 5.8% ABV.
This pours with a nice dark black color, not a big head but this was poured for me and not viewed immediately after pouring. What head might have been there did fade pretty quickly though. The aroma is heavy on the sweet chocolate, almost more like pure chocolate syrup as opposed to a Stout of any kind. On the palate is also a big dark chocolate taste that is combined with a slight roasted malt flavor. I’m getting a fairly strong amount of hop bitterness on the finish, and a bit of mild coffee that lingers on in the aftertaste as well.
It had been a while since I’ve had this one, but this is a damn good beer. Brewed for those with a chocolate sweet tooth, but I think this has just enough balance in the taste to keep it honest.
