Uinta King’s Peak
Uinta King’s Peak is an American Porter, 4% ABV. Best by 04/02/16, opened on 04/11/16. Got to this one a little late, but that is how things can be in Savannah, we don’t always get the freshest beer.
A nice pour with a dark brown color and a decent off white head that faded to basically nothing after a few minutes. I do like the aroma on this quite a bit. I’m smelling some chocolate, nuts and coffee on the nose; it really is a fantastic combo. The taste is similar to the nose but it loses something. The chocolate is there but the nuts are muted. The coffee on the nose is tasting more like smoke, or more specifically ash. There is also a bit of lacto tartness I might normally associate with a Milk Stout on the palate as well.
Clearly by the best by date this is no longer up to Unita’s standards, but it seems to be holding up fairly well, especially on the nose! I am also impressed by the big flavor profile of a 4% Porter. I hope I get a chance to try a fresher bottle of this one someday.
