Natty Greene’s Mt. Mitchell
Natty Greene’s Mt. Mitchell is a Single Hop American IPA brewed with 100% Eureka hops, 7.0% ABV.
This IPA pours with a perfectly clear golden orange color with some yellow highlights when the glass is held to the light, a big off white head sits atop the beer and only slightly fades. The aroma carries some big hop notes of spiciness, onion/scallion and just a hint of grapefruit. Again that hop flavor I can only categorize as onion is in the taste, but it is a complimented by some sweeter tropical fruits notes of mango and lychee. The malt in the background is dry cracker which is working with a resinous pine finish that has some subtle notes of sweet grapefruit. Not an overly bitter IPA, but it has enough to keep it the category for sure.
Not a perfect match to my IPA tastes, but I am glad I stuck with this one. Once I adjusted to the most dominating flavor/aroma (at least for me) I found a good bit more to this beer.
