Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across America 2016 – Sweet Sunny South Table Beer
The 2016 version of the Beer Camp Across America 12 pack is a bit different than last year. Last year they released 12 different beers that were collaborations with 12 different breweries. This year’s box contains 2 bottles of 6 different beers, each beer was a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and 5 other breweries.
Sierra Nevada Sweet Sunny South Table Beer is a Saison/Farmhouse Ale brewed with corn grits, black tea leaves, honeysuckle, peach, papaya, guava, and prickly pear, 4.9% ABV. It is brewed in collaboration with Austin Beerworks, Bayou Teche, Creature Comforts, Funky Buddha, and Wicked Weed.
This beer pours with a odd, but pleasant, peach/pink color; the head was an off white color but faded almost immediately. The speciality ingredients are rather evident on the nose with aromas of iced tea and sweet tropical fruits. The papaya is the fruit that really stands out to me, but overall it’s a nice collection of all of the sweet fruits added. Well, this is certainly one unique beer; a mixture of fruity iced tea and Belgian Saison is an accurate description. This creation is light, and sweet, and so easy to drink. Much like on the nose the tea is what really stands out to me in general, though this is a rather fruity beer. The malt bill does make itself know, it’s a touch grainy and a solid base for the tea, yeast, and fruit. There is a mild tartness to this beer that is very welcomed, I feel like this would have been just a tad too sweet for me without it.
I’m not sure I could knock back several of these in one sitting. Although really enjoyable overall the two bottles in the box will be quite enough.
