Stone Enjoy By 5.30.16 Tangerine IPA
Stone Enjoy By 5.30.16 Tangerine IPA is an American Double/Imperial IPA, 9.4% ABV. Bottled on 4/23/16, opened on 5/14/16. According to the information sheet that came with the bottle shipped to us to review, puréed tangerines were added to this batch of Enjoy By. It does not say whether the fruit was added to the mash, boil, secondary… or maybe it was all three?
The beer pours with a deep golden color with some plentiful orange highlights, a wonderful off white head to start on top which does not faded for several minutes. More fruity on the nose than I’ve gotten on the various batches of Enjoy By I’ve had in the past. A good bit of orange, or probably tangerine, is in the aroma, along with notes of pineapple and mango; some subtle pine is in there as well. The taste is fairly typical for the series, but there is a definite sweet citrus element in the taste. Along with the juicy citrus is the plethora of hop flavors I usually get: tropical fruits (mango stands out), resinous pine, a little mint and and green onion, and some light floral notes. The malt base brings a good bit of sweet caramel, but nobody buys this kind of beer for the malt profile, let’s just say it is doing it’s part.
Not stunningly different than the other Enjoy By’s I’ve had, but the tangerine is more than subtle and adds some new flavor to an Imperial IPA that was already amazing.
