Sweetwater Goin’ Coastal
Sweetwater Goin’ Coastal is an American IPA with natural pineapple flavor, 6.1% ABV, best by date of 07/20/16, opened 05/12/16.
The beer pours with a medium to dark caramel color and a big white head. I can’t find any information about whether fresh pineapple was used in this beer or not, but I can confirm the aroma has a HUGE amount of tropical pineapple in it. There is so much pineapple that I can’t get a sniff of anything else! I was expecting an artificial pineapple bomb, but the taste is a good bit more complex. Immediately on the palate is a quick burst of mild caramel malt that is complimented by some pine and grapefruit notes. The finish brings out the pineapple you are looking for, it is strong and lingers for quite a while in the aftertaste. Although the head on this beer was plentiful the mouth-feel seems off…yeah, way too flat; this beer needs a good bit more carbonation.
There have been a large influx of pineapple “added/infused/flavored” IPA’s being released lately, but Sweetwater has done a nice job of keeping that “flavor” very natural and strong.
