Edmund’s Oast Peanut Butter & Jelly
Edmund’s Oast Peanut Butter & Jelly is a Fruit Beer, 5% ABV. Got a chance to spend a couple of hours at this amazing brewpub when in Charleston recently, the menu description for the beer was as follows: brewed with peanut butter, concord grape, & milk sugar for a sandwich in a glass experience.
The beer is a lighter golden color with a lot of strong orange highlights, the head on top was rather thin with big bubbles which not too surprisingly lead to poor head retention. The aroma… it is uncanny. This beer ABSOLUTELY smells just like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich I ate as a child. It’s all there, the white Wonder Bread, sweet Welch’s grape jelly and Jiff peanut butter. I keep smelling it in amazement. The taste comes off more sweet and grape filled, but there is definitely some peanut butter and bready malt in the mix to keep it at least close to the unbelievable aroma.
Even if this beer isn’t loaded with complexity, it is still a brilliant creation. I would have to say this is a must try if you see it, such a cool experience.
