Revelry Brewing Strange Islands
Revelry Brewing Strange Islands is a Saison/Farmhouse Ale, 7.5% ABV. I first got a chance to try this collaboration Revelry Brewing did with Jolly Pumpkin when visiting Charleston with friends for a long weekend. Thanks to my buddy Dale for sharing the bottles he picked up at the brewery! (It was so good I had to get a bottle to take home to review) I’ll let the bottle explain what is going on: Brewed with our friends at Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, this bottle conditioned saison incorporates ingredients from our “Strange Islands.” We incorporate our terroir with the use of locally grown farro, Jimmy Red corn and Indigo Blue corn from Geetchie Boy Mill on Edisto Island, as well as Red Bay, Long Needle Pine, and Juniper berries from Folly Island.
The beer pours with a hazy golden peach color and a huge head. This has a nice combination of funk and fruit on the nose. Hints of grass and grain, and a little sweetart candy is in the aroma as well. Wonderfully fruity and tart on the taste, complimented by some dry barnyard funkiness. The fruits in the flavor are a nice mix of apricot, passion fruit, and grapefruit. This beer has a near perfect combination of complexity and refreshing drinkability.
We drank a lot of beers during our long weekend visit to Charleston (which included a visit to beer Mecca Westbrook) and this was easily the best beer I had.
