The Unknown Brewing Co. Scratch N Sniff

The Unknown Brewing Co. Scratch N Sniff is an American IPA, 4.7% ABV. This self-proclaimed “Aromatic IPA” has no canning date and was opened on 6/3/16.

This is far from the best looking IPA out there, it pours with a cloudy grey/orange color with a solid head that settled to a near transparent layer and decent ring around the top of my glass. This beer might lack in looks, but it really does make up for on the aroma. I’m smelling some wonderful sweet and juicy tropical fruit. In addition some citrus greats the nose along with some underlying caramel malt sweetness, just a hint of pine in there as well. The taste compliments the aroma rather well. A strong blast of citrus (mostly grapefruit) is followed by a little sweet caramel malt, pine, and earthy hop notes. Absent from the taste is the tropical fruit notes from the nose, some big sweet mango or passion fruit would have been a welcome addition to this beer. The bitterness is at an appropriately moderate level for my tastes.

Overall I feel like Scratch N Sniff does a very good job of giving you some big flavor in more of a sessionable IPA.
