Crooked Stave Petite Sour Blueberry
Crooked Stave Petite Sour Blueberry is a mixed fermentation ale aged in oak with blueberries, 5.5% ABV, no bottle date.
This one pours with a perfectly blueberry color which can only be described as purple/pink, the head was minimal and faded quick but does settle to a slight ring around my glass. A lot of the time this type of sour ale has an aroma dominated by it’s general sour funkiness, but there is a little more complexity going on here. I am getting an earthy but sweet note from the blueberries, some dry oak from the barrel, as well as a hint of cranberry tartness. Not an over-powerful sourness on the taste either, in fact I’d say sweet, natural blueberry flavor is the highlight of the flavor profile. The sourness and a touch of funk comes into play before a perfect blueberry aftertaste.
Not nearly as “in your face” as some Crooked Stave offerings, and that is just perfect on the hot and humid Florida day on which I enjoyed it!
