Founders Sumatra Mountain Brown

Founders Sumatra Mountain Brown is an American Brown Ale brewed with Sumatra coffee, 9% ABV. Bottled on 05/06/16, opened on 06/17/16.

This beer pours with a deep brown color and a soft fluffy tan head. It’s not too shocking to smell a ton of coffee on the nose. Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, and a little chocolate in the aroma; not complex, but mighty good! First note of the taste is more of a comment on the feel. This beer is carbonated perfectly, not too bubbly and so soft and creamy. I was totally expecting a full on coffee bomb, and yes, there is a ton of medium roast coffee, but this is really quite more complex. Notes of chocolate, toffee, sweet cream, a touch of roasted nuts, and a fairly strong amount of alcohol are also in the taste. The finish brings some solid hop and coffee bitterness, and is nice and dry. That dryness is kind of making me drink this 9% beer a little too fast… so maybe this is a drawback?

This is an excellent beer. Period.
