Green Flash Dia De Los Serranos
Green Flash Dia De Los Serranos is an American Double/Imperial Stout with serrano peppers added, 8.8% ABV. Best by date is 07/07/16, opened on 06/21/16. Not sure if this was shipped to Savannah late, or if this was hiding in plain sight at one of my local shops for a while, but I grabbed a bottle when I saw it. Since this beer, called a Double Stout on the bottle, has the same ABV as their Double Stout I will assume this is simply that beer with the peppers added.
This is a fine looking stout with a near black color and good tan head. The aroma is dominated by a ton of semi-sweet chocolate, with notes of a little roast and maybe the mildest hint of chili pepper. (but I think I’m trying to find it) Well, this says that it is delicately spiced on the bottle, and they ain’t kidding. The serrano peppers are there in the taste, but they are really mild, increasing a little after the beer got to room temp. Not to say that this isn’t a nice stout, because it really is. Much like Double Stout this brings a lot of bittersweet chocolate, a hint of coffee, roasted malts, and a little sugary sweetness on the finish. The mouth-feel is thick and slick, just how I like it!
It’s more than possible that this had a lot more burn on it when it was first bottled, but I am happy enough with this tasty/reasonably priced stout!
