Schlafly Hop Trial: Hallertau Blanc
Schlafly Hop Trial: Hallertau Blanc is a Golden Ale, 6.5% ABV. Bottled on 05/20/16, opened on 07/19/16. It looks like Schlafly does a series of single hop beers to showcase various hop varieties. This one features the German hop Hallertau Blanc. Thanks to Schlafly for sending a few for us to review.
The beer pours with a slightly hazy golden color that created a big white head in my tulip glass. This ale has a rather pleasant floral aroma, some strong notes of lemon mix with the cracker malt to create a little bit of a tea like thing on the nose. A bit more aggressive on the palate with a good amount of pine leading the charge. The malt bill takes over the middle of the taste a bit as the pine fades, and things finish up with more lemon tea.
Although this Hop Trial is enjoyable, it does lack in complexity. Probably not a beer I’d look for, but this is a wonderful hop that deserves the showcase.
