Dogfish Head Bière De Provence
Dogfish Head Bière De Provence is a Saison/Farmhouse Ale brewed with lavender, marjoram, and bay leaves, 8.3% ABV.
This beer pours with a perfectly clear golden color, a solid white cap that faded to a thin layer and ring after several minutes. A bit of an odd aroma, but that isn’t shocking given all of the fresh herbs used in the brewing process. Sweet and floral on the nose. Lavender and bay leaves are not what I’m used to smelling in a beer, but that is certainly what it is, not much coming from the yeast at all. Not your typical tasting Saison either, those spices are once again dominating the show. I’m getting all of those herbs on top of a sweet biscuit type of malt. A little grass and a whole lot of bay leaf and what I will assume is lavender and marjoram. I say assume since I am not overly familiar with those two spices, at least when it comes to how they taste.
You always get something out of the ordinary with Dogfish Head, and this one is no different. I’m not sure I’ll be back for more of this if they brew it again, but as always I appreciate the creativity and quality.
