Gangway IPA + House made grapefruit juice = Yeah… I’ll try it.
The are referring to this creation as an India Pale Radler. Sure enough, this does look like a genuine mix of Red Hare’s flagship IPA and some grapefruit juice, it is a cloudy gold color with some pinkish hues to it. The aroma is pretty much all grapefruit juice, I am maybe getting just the slightest hint of hops in there. It is well on the sweet side overall, starting with the sweet malt that is a staple characteristic of Gangway IPA. The grapefruit juice is adding expected tartness and flavor, but it seems it is also adding even more sugary sweetness to the taste as well. The hops make a brief appearance on the back end of the taste and linger into the aftertaste as well. Those hops are more of a wisp of bitterness, than a blast of flavor.
Like your typical Radler, this is fairly light tasting and refreshing beverage. I figured the IPA would be totally lost, but Red Hare did a commendable job of leaving just enough “beer” in this beer.
