Wicked Weed Permeo
Wicked Weed Permeo is an American Wild Ale aged in neutral wine barrels with house sour culture and over one pound per gallon of whole lychee and passionfruit, 6.4% ABV. This beer is a part of their Canvas Series. Bottled on 5/27/16, opened on 07/31/16, thanks to Lee for sharing this with the class!
The beer pours with a somewhat cloudy peach color with some yellow highlights. The aroma is a bit different than I normally find in this kind of sour ale. Instead of the tart and funk coming totally from the yeast, I feel like most of the tart and funky aroma in Permeo is coming from the fruit. Definitely smelling the sweet passionfruit and lychee melon-esque aromas on the nose here. A quick bit of sourness shock is on the palate right at first but that fades, much like the nose the lychee and passionfruit are the star of this show. Tart, but not what I would call super sour, more of a subtle vinegar type of flavor coming in just at the finish.
I feel like this is an extremely approachable sour ale without being bland or too mild.
