Harpoon Flannel Friday
Harpoon Flannel Friday is an American Amber Ale, 5.7% ABV. Enjoy by date of 12/15/16, opened on 09/11/16. Can provided for review. It looks like this hoppy Amber Ale is the first new Fall seasonal release Harpoon has offered since 1989! (Don’t fret Harpoon Octoberfest fans, this has not replaced that beer!)
This is a rather clear amber beer with some serious red highlights. A near perfect off white head sits on top. Really you couldn’t ask for a better looking beer for Fall, it is truly the color of turning leaves. The aroma is a nice combination of sweeter malt with some citrus and earthy pine notes from the Cascade and Citra hops. Nothing unexpected on the nose, but I sure like what is there! The taste replicates the aroma fairly well. This is a solid malt forward beer with a moderate dosing of citrus and earthy hops. About half way through he taste the beer turns a bit generically fruity and sweet before quickly tailing off to a more dry and bitter finish than I expected.
I am stunned to realize this is the first beer from Harpoon we have reviewed. How is that even possible?
