Lagunitas The Down Low
Lagunitas The Down Low is an American Pale Ale, 3.9% ABV, no bottle date.
The beer pours with a slightly hazy golden/copper color with a big off white head. The aroma on this beer is pretty big for a low ABV session ale. A good bit of tropical and earthy hop notes on top of a malt base that reminds me a a good red ale. The taste is more typical for your lower ABV pale ales and IPA’s. Not too big on the malt of sweetness, this beer relies on a good bit of hop flavor and bitterness. Those more earthy hops from the nose are what really come through in the taste, followed by a blast of sharp orange citrus on a rather dry finish.
This is an enjoyable session beer, but with no real new ground being broken either. I do question the call on putting this in 22oz. bottles, seems to me more logical in 12oz. bottles or cans.
