Stone Enjoy By 09.05.16 Unfiltered IPA
Stone Enjoy By 09.05.16 Unfiltered IPA is an American Double/Imperial IPA, 9.4% ABV, bottled on 07/29/16, opened on 08/22/16. Thanks to Lee for grabbing a bottle of this for my lazy ass before they were sold out locally!
This pours as cloudy and chunky just as you would expect a beer advertised as unfiltered would. Yeast bits are floating in my hazy golden beer that poured with a nice off white head. As with the other slight variants of this amazing DIPA, I can’t say the aroma is too different from the very first Enjoy By that I tried. I’m getting some floral notes, tropical fruits, resinous pine, and a little onion on the nose. The taste follows along with the aroma rather well. A nice bit of malt sweetness (a touch of sweet bread and mild caramel) is followed by some mango, orange and stone fruit. A pleasant piney flavor and fairly strong bitterness comes behind, only the slightest hint of onion on this version of Enjoy By. Apart from the appearance, I feel like the skipping of the filtering process seems to have changed the mouth-feel a little bit as well. “Unfiltered” feels a bit more full and smoother to me, and absolutely too easy to drink for such a big beer. (My glass was half gone before I knew it!)
I have to admit that there was more unique differences in this version of Enjoy By than I was expecting. I’ll be a bit more aggressive in getting my hands on this the next time around.
