Abita 30th Anniversary Ale
Abita 30th Anniversary Ale is a Belgian IPA, 7% ABV, best by date of 01/02/17. Congratulations to Abita for 30 years of craft brewing!
The pour is hazy with a nice gold color, a thick white head sits atop that leaves impressive lacing. I’m getting a lot of fruity sweetness on the nose with strong notes of melon and banana bread. There is also a kind of peppery thing on the nose, not sure how much I like how it is blending with all the sweetness though. Much more coherent in the taste with the some fruity notes of generic citrus, mild melon and the banana bread from the aroma as well. Not a whole lot of hop flavor, but I do get a little tea like notes at times. A touch of Belgian yeast spice on the palate, but it much more subtle and less peppery than it is in the aroma. The finish is dry with only the slightest bit of hop bitterness.
I’m missing where the IPA comes into play with this beer, but at less than $6 for the bomber this is a solid Belgian-style Ale that is worth a try.
