Mystic Saison Renaud
Mystic Saison Renaud is a Saison/Farmhouse Ale, 6.5% ABV. The bottle does have a batch code of 00003339, but no bottle date. I took a quick look at the Mystic website but could not find a way to search for the batch code. According to the website: The beer that started it all, a provision-style saison fermented with our longest continuously cultured strain of yeast.
The beer pours with a clear golden color with some lovely yellow highlights, a nice white head on top of the beer. I will guess the beer will get a bit cloudier as further pours start stirring up the yeast in the bottom of the bottle. Fantastic aroma with big notes of grapes and pear, mild citrus, moderate Belgian-style funk, a dash of pepper and a bit of sweet grain. On the palate is bready and biscuit malts, white pepper, some sweet honey, mild banana esters, and some hop spice. I’m a bit surprised by some considerable bitterness that mixes with a more typical dryness on the finish. That white pepper from the taste lingers on into the aftertaste. Nicely carbonated, the bottle conditioning at this point is basically perfect.
This is my first experience with Mystic, and so far so good!
