Ormond Brewing Donkey Jote
Ormond Brewing Donkey Jote is an American Double/Imperial IPA aged in tequila barrels. No ABV or bottle date. Someone visiting Service Brewing dropped this off for us a few months ago. I’m not sure if they worked at the brewery, or if they were just big fans and wanted to spread the news. We finally got around to opening this after work the other day, thanks whoever you are!
The beer pours with a dark caramel color that has some bright orange highlights, the head is off whtie and gone quickly. There is a huge and dominate amount of straight tequila on the nose. Maybe just a hint of caramel malt in the aroma as well… but mostly tequila. Like the aroma tequila is upfront and really dominates the taste as well. Some dry oak and big caramel malt sweetness make there way into the taste before you find yourself at a hop bitter and tequila soaked finish.
There are some rough edges on this one, but after I got acclimated to the immense tequila I rather enjoyed Donkey Jote overall. The bottom line is this: You had better really like tequila if you decide to pick up one of these.
