Schlafly Pumpkin Stout
Schlafly Pumpkin Stout is 6.8% ABV. Bottled on 08/11/16, opened on 10/19/16. Bottle provided for review. I am a huge fan of Schlafly Pumpkin Ale, it is one of my favorite fall seasonal beers. You can imagine my interest when a recent sample box from the brewery contained a Pumpkin Stout!
The beer pours a black color with a little bit of red glow near the edge of the glass when held to the light. The head was fizzy and nearly gone in seconds. I can actually hear the carbonation bubbles crackle as they rush to the top of the beer, kind of like Rice Crispies. I’m into the aroma here, lots of sweet pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon and a big helping of clove. Not a sweet pie like flavor on the taste, this is actually a good mix of pumpkin and stout. The flavor profile has some pumpkin flesh, mild roast, some cinnamon, and a dollop of sweet caramel. The mouth-feel is what I’d call thin, but the other aspects make up for that.
I’ve had several Pumpkin Stouts that I prefer overall, but this one does stand out as having a fairly unique taste profile. Tasty!
