Founders Red’s Rye IPA
Founders Red’s Rye IPA is a hybrid of a Rye Beer and a American Red IPA, 6.6% ABV. Originally called Red’s Rye PA, this beer was at one time a Fall seasonal. It is now available year round… but only on draft.
The beer pours with a dark crimson color and a nice looking off white head that produces excellent lacing. Sweet caramel like malt and some rye spice on the nose, maybe a bit of hop as well but is is muted by the rye. The taste starts with smooth and creamy malts, followed by some dry and spicy rye. A bit of prickly bitter hops leave a spicy and herbal taste on the finish.
This beer always drank more like a Red Rye IPA to me, so the slight name change seems to make sense. I do miss seeing this in bottles, I sadly haven’t seen this too many times since it went to kegs only.
