Prairie Artisan Ales Prairie Weisse
Prairie Artisan Ales Prairie Weisse is a Berliner Weissbier, 3.9% ABV. They refer to this as “A Sour Wheat Ale” on the label. Packaging code of 21416 on the neck of the bottle, which I will assume means the 214th day of 2016. Opened on the 303rd day of 2016.
This is a fairly typical looking Berliner; grayish gold in color with a little orange and yellow highlights, immediately disappearing head. Prairie Weisse is maybe a touch clearer than some other Berliner’s I’ve had. Nicely tart on the nose with some subtle soft wheat as well. This is pretty bold and flavorful for the style. Very tart (almost full on sour really) to start with notes of lemon, tart green apple, and some pears that have been picked too early. The finish has some dry wheat and cracker like malt, as well a some fairly strong Gose like saltiness.
Refreshing and easy to drink while still being bold and flavorful, this is my kind of Berliner!
