Burnt Hickory The Crosses
Burnt Hickory The Crosses is a Cranberry Pumpkin Apple Pie Porter, 10% ABV, no bottle date. This beer is #14 in the BHB Legacy Series. I picked this bottle up during a Black Friday visit to the brewery.
The beer pours with a dark brown color and a nice looking light tan head. Big aroma on this one, and amazingly all of the elements come out on the nose. A strong combination of cinnamon and pumpkin comes out in the aroma first, then it slowly starts to smell more like apple pie. The cranberry is mild, but I can smell it as well. In a complete reversal from the aroma the cranberry hits my palate first. Not a really tart beer, but the cranberry along with some strong cinnamon makes the biggest impression in the flavor. The aftertaste brings some sweet apple and crust. I’m not getting much from the pumpkin in the taste. A rather sweet beer in general, but it never becomes too much.
I’m not going to lie, I didn’t give this crazy flavor combo much of a chance of being great. Turns out this odd Imperial Porter is both unique and tasty.
