Clown Shoes Bluegrass Billionaire
Clown Shoes Bluegrass Billionaire is an English-style Barleywine aged in Bourbon Barrels, 12.5% ABV. I really enjoyed Billionaire aged in Cognac Barrels, so I was excited to see this on a visit to Atlanta.
The beer pours with a somewhat murky brown color that has the slightest bit of red to it, and not much of a light tan head. Sweet and malty on the nose with some moderate notes of vanilla, brown sugar and bourbon. The taste is a near carbon copy of the aroma… and then some. Big sweet malt leads off the taste and is followed by layers of vanilla, oak, bourbon, cherry, brown sugar, and chocolate covered raisins. A mild bit of hop bitterness comes in just on the finish. The 12.5% ABV in nearly absent in the taste at first, just a slight sting and burn of booziness at the back end of the taste, but it really increases as the beer warms. This is not overly thick or chewy, not too thin either, nice mouth-feel on this beer.
Billionaire has so many rich and sweet flavors that are working together in near perfect harmony, another highly enjoyable beer from Clown Shoes.
