Wicked Weed Dark Age
Wicked Weed Dark Age is an American Double/Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels, 12% ABV, bottled on 10/25/16, opened on 12/17/16.
The beer pours as black as you might expect with just a little light shining through at the bottom of the glass creating a tiny bit of caramel color. The inch high tan head settles to a nice layer on top of the beer. This is what you are looking for in the aroma of a Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout! The bourbon is strong and hits the nose first but it is complimented with notes of caramel, chocolate, oak, and vanilla. So nice. The taste is pretty much spot on as well. I taste bourbon and chocolate first, but almost immediately after is some sweet marshmallows. Some strong woody and dry oak hits my palate in the middle of the taste which mixes with just a hint of roasted coffee. The finish brings a return of some strong bourbon and some series alcohol heat. The mouth-feel is maybe a touch on the thin side, but given the amazing aroma and intense flavor it is easy to look past.
Wicked Weed has no shortage of great beers to choose from, I’m happy to see beers like this making there way to store shelves. This one is highly recommended, seek and enjoy!
