Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux
Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux is a Saison/Farmhouse Ale, 9.5% ABV. A stamp on the label reads L16292C. I don’t know for sure what that means, but if I had to guess I’d say this was either bottled on day 292 of 2016, or that is the best by date. The name of this beer translates to “best wishes”, and is brewed for the holiday season. Thanks to Kevin for the bottle!
The beer pours with hazy lemon yellow color that has a little grey to it, when held to the light some orange highlights are present. A slow and calculated pour generates a nice big white head. I like the aroma of this Saison; layers of honey, clove, banana, under cooked biscuits, and a little pepper and spice are all on the nose. A complex flavor profile of honey, melon, white pepper, vanilla, generic spice, dry hay and some alcohol make up the majority of the taste. The finish is fruity, but also extremely dry with a potent amount of yeast flavor that is creating bit of medicinal quality. Even with such a large collection of flavors, this unique Saison does have a fantastic coherency to it. One of my favorite parts of this beer is the feel of it. The higher ABV is creating a velvety smooth beer that also has some bright bubbly carbonation.
I have yet to try a Dupont beer that isn’t excellent, and Avec Les Bons Voeux Saison is no different.
