Allagash Hoppy Table Beer
Allagash Hoppy Table Beer is a Belgian Pale Ale, 4.8% ABV. Bottled on 01/12/17, opened on 03/05/17. I got a chance to try this at a tap takeover event at Your Pie here in Savannah several months ago. I thought it was good then, but I was enjoying the company and decided to not take notes. Glad to get a chance to review with my full attention.
The beer pours with a bright straw yellow color and had big fluffy white head. A steady stream of bubbles jets to the top of the glass from the bottom of my Allagash flute. Aromatic stone fruit hits the nose immediately. Notes of apricots and peaches dominate the aroma, but some subtle grapefruit and a sweet grain round things out. The taste is much dryer than the sweeter aroma would lead you to believe. A bit of generic fruitiness and grain is quickly overtaken by the dry and spicy Belgian-style yeast. The hops add a touch of pine and a spicy bite that blends with a little coriander. Slight notes of lemon and grapefruit citrus peek out on the finish before the dry yeasty aftertaste leaves me wanting another sip almost immediately.
A solid beer all around, and at 4.8% I could drink a bunch of these at a time, especially during the summer months. Kind of odd seeing a table beer in 12oz bottles rather than a larger format. It kind of goes against the idea of a table beer in general.
