Chimay Bleue
Chimay Bleue is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, 9% ABV.
The beer pours with a pretty reddish brown color, and has an off white head that settles with a nice thick layer on top of the beer. An aroma of dark fruit and a potent musty funk hits the nose quickly upon my first sniff. The taste reveals some sweet dates, honey, wet tobacco, under cooked biscuits, dried figs, a dash of pepper and a little sweet cherry on the finish. A bit of an enigma on the mouth-feel; a touch thin yet somehow rich and creamy with an impressive carbonation. There is no escaping the complexity of this beer as the 9% ABV warms with each sip.
I’m not the first reviewer to attempt to convey the beauty of Chimay Bleue, but if you have haven’t picked one up by now you really should. It’s a must try for anyone who believes themselves to be a fan of a beer.
