Victory 21st Birthday IPA
Victory 21st Birthday IPA is an American IPA brewed with whole flower hops (2016 Roy Farms Chinook, Roy Farms Centennial, and Black Star Ranch Mosaic), 6.1% ABV. Best by date of 06/12/17, opened on 03/06/17. Congrats to Victory for finally turning legal drinking age!
The beer pours with a light gold color with some big time yellow highlights, not too far from the straw color you might look for in a German Pils. The head is a pretty white and absolutely refuses to settle out! Dank pine and strong hop spice make up the majority of the aroma, some bready cracker malt and a splash of citrus linger in the background on the nose. The taste isn’t too far from the aroma, but it is more dry and bitter than I was expecting. Notes of herbal hops, sweet lemon peel, and dry cracker malt lead to a grapefruit pith and pine finish. Crisp and bubbly on the mouth-feel, the feel fits perfect with the flavor.
Not the flavor profile I’m generally looking for in an IPA, but I have no complaints about the quality. If you’re a big hop head you should celebrate this one with Victory.
