The Right (and Wrong) Way to Combine Beer and Running
First, the good:
Philadelphia is concluding their Philly Beer Week with a 5k race that leads runners to a free music festival. The Dock Street Philly Beer Run & Music Fest will be held on June 10th. Here’s the description:
Run off the beer soaked days of Philly Beer Week at Dock Street Philly Beer Run & Music Fest! On Sunday, June 10th starting at 2pm, Dock Street Brewery is your host for a 5K official timed run through University City ending with the annual free Music Fest. It’s a celebration of Philly Beer Week, sublime music, the art of running, great food and how all of that is enhanced with delicious craft beer.
That sounds right up my alley. Beer. Running. Music.
Now, the bad:
I’m sorry; but the idea of chugging a beer and running 400 meters seems like a bad idea. Repeating that until you hit a mile seems like a horrible idea. And yet, that’s what a Beer Mile is all about. Watch the embedded video to see a race from April in Australia where one impressive young man set the unofficial beer mile world record with a time of 5:025. Insane. Andrew wants to do this as an official Brew / Drink / Run activity. We’ll see…
