Allagash Coolship Resurgam & Fluxus 2011
Lee, Raymond and I sat down recently to record a podcast (mostly) about Allagash Brewing. During the podcast we sampled Fluxus 2011 and the highly sought after Coolship Resurgam. The podcast should be available September 21st 2012.
Allagash Coolship Resurgam: This Gueuze is a barrel aged beer that is a blend of both old and young unfruited spontaneous beer. The smell is so sour and funky, I can hardly wait to taste it. Super tart and funky, this is like a liquefied sweet tart. Just a hint of sweetness is followed by a large dose of sourness. Getting just hints of the woodiness from the barrel (mmm taste the Maine?). I cannot for the life of me explain why I LOVE this so much, but this beer was so amazing!
Allagash Fluxus 2011: The 2011 version of Fluxus is a Bière de Garde, and has been aged about 1 year. A little bready and grainy with a nice malty sweetness. Also getting a good bit of light fruit, maybe some pear and white grapes. The yeast is there but not terribly strong or funky. I did not have this fresh, but I feel like it has done pretty well over time.
