Olde Hickory Imperial Stout
Olde Hickory Imperial Stout is an American Double/Imperial Stout, this is the 2012 vintage. There was no bottle dating info on the bottle or the website so it is hard to tell how old this beer is. Getting huge roasted malts to start, this is balanced by some mild anise and some dark bakers chocolate. The finish adds a sweet coffee note, like coffee with cream. This imperial stout is brewed with honey, and although it is a semi-sweet beer, I don’t feel like it coming from the honey necessarily. As the beer warms the big roast mellows out a bit and milder malts with some subtle dark fruit in the background emerges. I am pretty impressed with this one, stout lovers should grab a bottle or two of this when you see it. I’d go as far to say it is worth trading for.
