Cascade Kriek Ale
Cascade Kriek Ale is a Flanders Red Ale. The beer spends six months in lactic fermentation and oak barrels, it is then fermented for eight months with fresh whole Bing and sour pie cherries. This review is of the 2009 vintage, it has been fermented/aged about 3 years total. Mild cherry sweetness is being dominated by some impressive mouth puckering sourness. The sourness is not vinegary but is more straight lactic, very nice if not a little acidic. I am getting really nothing from the oak barrels, and I wish there was a bit more cherry flavor coming through, but all in all I really enjoyed this one.
