Westbrook Cap’n Skoon’s Ballistic Stout
Westbrook Cap’n Skoon’s Ballistic Stout is their 2nd Anniversary Ale. I had this on draft at The Distillery in Savannah GA. They are referring to this as a Baltic Stout since it was fermented with a German lager yeast. The roasted malts are the first thing I notice, so much so that it takes a few sips to get to the more subtle flavors. Some chocolate, slight anise, a boozy kick and a bit of hops on the finish round this beer out. A bit thin in the mouth-feel, but that is to be expected from a stout fermented with a lager yeast. This is worth picking up a bottle or seeking out if you hear it is on a draft board near you.
