Kulmbacher EKU 28
Kulmbacher EKU 28 is a German Dopplebock. This showed up at my door from the Beer Of The Month Club, big thanks to my wife for the Christmas gift! Wow, this has one super creamy mouth-feel. The taste is rich & smooth and heavy on the malt. Getting flavors of caramel and prunes that then fades into a light pear/apple kind of sweetness. I’d say this is an “end of the night sipper” kind of beer, and if you give it time to warm up all those sweet malty flavors come out some more. A little bit of the 11% ABV comes out in the finish and aftertaste, but otherwise is well hidden. I’ve read some other reviews of this that refer to it as an Eisbock but I am pretty sure that this is in fact a Dopplebock. Regardless of the style, it is good!
