FiftyFifty Eclipse Stout – American Mellow Corn Whiskey 2012
FiftyFifty Eclipse Stout is anĀ American Double/Imperial Stout that is then aged in numerous barrel styles and released once a year. This review is for the American Mellow Corn Whiskey variant identified by the “metallic gold” wax dip. New for 2012 this seemingly generic barrel treatment turns out to be a quite amazing variant. I am getting a lot of chocolate out of the gate, with milder notes of coffee as well as a generic alcohol taste/heat. I’m not sure why but I am surprised at how sweet this beer is, it has some mild roast but is almost like a barrel aged imperial milk stout that actually works. This is my first Eclipse and I have to say I am very impressed, and as much as these bottles cost (I dropped $30, yes $30, on this and the others I found) I hope they continue to impress!!!!
