The Bruery Smoking Wood
The Bruery Smoking Wood is a smoked porter brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, this variant is then aged in rye whiskey barrels. Smoke and molasses on the nose, kind of like barbecue. The rye barrel aging is the first thing I noticed on my first sip, great rye whiskey flavor mixing well with a solid porter base. More subtle notes of vanilla, chocolate, oak and a dry rye like spiciness. The smokiness is there in the background until the finish when it really comes out. I drink a lot of high ABV beers, but trust me when I tell you that this 13% beer will add some rosiness to your cheeks. Smoked beers can be really intense and one dimensional, but this one is rather complex and interesting.
