Allagash Grand Cru
Allagash Grand Cru, according to their website, is a spiced winter ale is brewed with a touch of peated malt and spiced with coriander, sweet orange peel and a hint of anise. This is one of those beers that fails to fit perfectly into a style category. If we must give it a label I guess we should call it a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. This beer is rather sweet and I notice the spice and maltiness straight away. A little caramel and fruitiness is apparent as well. This is drinking like a mild Quad is some ways. As with most Allagash beers this is worth seeking out to try.
I post this review with a heavy heart. Less than 24 ago a cowardly act of terror at the Boston Marathon has once again shaken our country. BDR has our fellow runners, spectators, and the families of those injured and killed in our hearts and prayers.
