Firestone Walker §ucaba 2012

Firestone Walker §ucaba is an American Barleywine, this annual release is available in bottles and limited kegs in February. The number of cases of the 2012 vintage was 3000. §ucaba is aged in a combination of barrels (some wine, American spirits and retired barrels from their own Firestone Union) for 11 months before bottling. This bottle was enjoyed at 1 year of additional aging. Getting flavors of Riesen candy, dark fruits, mild bourbon and oak, port wine with a lot of alcohol burn and a touch of coffee on the finish. This is an outstanding sipper that I think could use even more time. I received a bottle of the 2013 vintage recently as an extra in a trade and I think I will hold on to that for at least 2 years. Serious thanks to my friend Denver for sending me this bottle, I am already missing our retired beer exchange arrangement!
