Dark Horse Plead The 5th Imperial Stout
Dark Horse Plead The 5th is a Russian Imperial Stout, and is a part of the Holiday Stout Series. I got two bottles of this in a trade and was very excited to try it. The first bottle I really didn’t enjoy that much, it seemed way too sweet to me. I held off on writing a review and I am glad I did, although I’m sure the beer is the same I am enjoying it more the second time. I am getting flavors of dark chocolate, ripe raisins, molasses, a bit of licorice and cola. There is a cane sugar like sweetness on the finish mixing with just a bit of roast/char bitterness. (This RIS reminds me a whole lot of Oskar Blues Ten Fidy) I tend to prefer a bit more roast in a RIS, but this is still a very good beer. Although I see way people seek this out it’s not something I would trade for again, but I would pick up a few bottles if I saw it on a shelf when traveling.
