Terrapin Phlux Capacitor
Terrapin Phlux Capacitor (Side Project 16) is anĀ American Strong Ale aged on french oak. I had this when it first was released over a year ago, and although I thought it was good but I really felt some age would improve this a lot. Below is the results of both tastings.
Fresh bottle: Sweet caramel, a bit of spicy hops, some alcohol heat and A LOT of dry wood. The wood really dominates this beer, dry oak from start to finish. It was pretty good, but I hope some aging will bring out a little more balance.
Aged about 15 months: As I was expecting a years + worth of age has dulled so much of the overpowering dry oak. What I wasn’t expecting was the tasty raisin and vanilla sweetness that has appeared. It now has the balance it needed. This is now drinking very well, if you have cellared a bottle I’d say go for it!
