Highland Brewing Oatmeal Porter
This week our Throwback Thursday beer is a fantastic dark beer you can session.
One of the things I hear that makes me cringe is when someone claims a stout or porter is either “Just like Guinness” or that the beer is “a meal in a glass”. Maybe that is because I used to think and say the same things. I foolishly thought that to be “good” a darker beer had to fill me up. One of the first sessionable dark beers I remember having was Highland Oatmeal Porter. It sacrifices zero flavor, but is the kind of beer you can drink a few of when your out at a bar, or anytime really.
Highland Brewing Oatmeal Porter is an American style Porter and is a year round offering. The oatmeal creates relatively smooth and creamy mouth-feel for a 5.8% ABV beer. In addition to a fuller body the oatmeal adds a slight amount of flavor. There is a nice combo of subtle coffee, chocolate, and a hint of smokiness in the roasted malts. Big flavor and high drinkability makes this one of our more popular draft options at work.
