Dark Horse 3 Guy Off The Scale Sour Old Ale
Dark Horse 3 Guy Off The Scale Sour Old Ale is a limited releaseĀ I picked up at the Dark Horse General Store during my visit to the Brewpub this summer. This is bottle 128 of 1440. I knew right away by how the cap came off this beer was going to be flat, and it seems like that has been a pretty common complaint from others as well. I guess creating a low carbonated beer could have been intentional, but the consequence is a sickly sweet mouth-feel that is almost too much to handle. The flavor is an odd one, but I seemed to have like this beer a bit more than many others who have reviewed it. Lots of raisins, some soy sauce, super sweet caramel and a lot of booze. Not really sour at all, maybe there is a hint or tartness late in the taste. That tartness is actually making this seem slightly “off” as opposed to intentionally sour. Not sure how to describe this beer, maybe as a funky port wine? No regrets picking one up though, it is certainly an interesting beer! I really think I might have enjoyed this more with carbonation though.
