Cigar City Brewing Humidor Series: Smoked English-Style Imperial Stout
It has been a long time since I’ve had it, but the first Humidor Series Imperial Stout was one of my favorite Cigar City Brewing releases. So needless to say I was excited to snag a bottle of the latest Humidor Series stout! This time around it’s a Smoked English-Style Imperial Stout, aged on cedar of course. Lots of cedar and molasses on the nose, not a great smelling beer but lets get into the taste. Not surprised to find the cedar and smoked malts dominating at first. It takes some time but some very subtle and complex flavors emerge: chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, molasses (much more muted than on the nose), and a good showing of bitter hops mixing with the cedar and smoke on the finish. The Smoked English-Style Imperial Stout doesn’t live up to my memory of the first Humidor Stout, but this is still a great beer I’m enjoying a lot!
