Three Taverns Theophan The Recluse
Three Taverns Theophan The Recluse is a Russian Imperial Stout “brewed via Belgium”. Not a traditional RIS due to the Belgian yeast strain used, but there is a lot of intriguing flavors working overtime in this big stout. Big dry roast, bitter dark chocolate, sweet dark fruit and a whole lot of booze. The finish is dry and bitter with a bit of that Belgian yeast strain finally coming to the forefront. I wouldn’t say this is the best RIS the world has ever seen, but overall it was well worth the money. This would be a nice beer to have on hand to share for a nightcap when you don’t feel like cracking open a cellared rarity.
